At Laastedrif Agri, we are proudly building on a rich heritage of pioneers who helped shape fruit farming in South Africa.

– 1887 –

Petrus Johannes Cillié (Piet California) became the first South African farmer to gain official accreditation to export fruit to Europe.

– 1922 –

Pieter Cillié became one of the founding members of the Ceres Fruit Growers Cooperative.

– 1950 –

At the age of 27, Koos Cillié (son of Pieter Cillié and grandson of the legendary Piet California) acquired Laastedrif farm, 40 kilometres away from Die Bos in the Bo-Swaarmoed area. He planted apple and pear orchards, bred cattle and sheep and later cultivated potatoes and onions on a large scale. He also served on numerous (10) boards and councils which involved agriculture interests.

– 1964 –

On the 28th of August Rossouw Cillié is born in the local Ceres hospital.

– 1986 –

After Rossouw Cillié completed his studies he joined his father on the farm, and began growing and improving the business, like the generations before him.

– 1988 –

The farm near Touwsriver, Nouga, was acquired where we grow some of our vegetables today.

– 1989 –

Uitkoms is acquired where we currently farm with fruits namely: apricots, peaches, plums and apples.

– 2002 –

  • New vegetable packaging stores are built for value added
  • Morceaux our BEE farm is acquired. This project consists of 60% workers ownership and 40% Laastedrif ownership. 
  • Kleinvlak farm is acquired.

– 2007 –

Our first product is exported to the UK.

– 2013 –

Rossouw Cillie is awarded Landbouskrywers Farmer of the Year.

– 2014 –

Rossouw Cillie is awarded with Supplier of the Year from Freshmark.

The farm Sebulon is acquired.

– 2016 –

Our farm Nuwerus is acquired, where we today farm with vegetables, namely broccoli, cauliflower, onions and beetroot.

– 2017 –

Laastedrif joint venture with G’s Fresh (Love Beets) from the UK and import a new form of cooked and infused beetroot.

– Today –

We currently irrigate 1200HA of fruit and vegetables.
